Iphone filmmaking, Rode Gear

Iphone filmmaking, Rode Gear

When film makers hear the name Rode they think microphones and the gear that is used to support them. This company is one of the best friends of indie filmmakers everywhere. Now it seems that they have turned their eyes toward the iphone and the gear they have come up with is impressive. The video tutorial you will be viewing is a basic overview of what they have developed for the iphone film maker.
Introducing the RØDEGrip and RØDEGrip+ from RØDE Microphones on Vimeo.
One of the best uses for this device is to use your iphone in support of a Dslr as a recording device. Most of us know that the one great weakness of using a dslr camera to shoot a film is that they record terrible sound. You have to use a secondary piece of equipment to record sound and the Iphone can be used in this regard.

iPhone Filmmaking 101

                 iPhone Filmmaking 101

Time to get around to actually talking about what goes into making an iPhone film. There is not much difference between making one of these films than making a normal film using a Dslr or a camcorder.

You are going to need to concentrate on script. You need a good story to tell or what is the point of making a film in the first place.  If you do not know how to write a screenplay that is okay I have written a blog that will teach you all the basics just  click here .  Secondly you are going to have to learn how to light your scenes. The rules for proper lighting are universal. Almost all lighting with the exception of film noir is 3 point lighting.

Here is a quick look at what is meant by 3 point lighting. Practice lighting set ups before you invest a great deal of time and effort in shooting your project. Remember that old line spoken before a crew starts shooting a film. Lights, Camera - Action.

Next we will have a look at the basics of iPhone movie making.
